Auburn, N.H. – Sentry Roofing, a local roofing and siding company located in Auburn, New Hampshire is stepping forward to help a Dunbarton family that has experienced hardship after an Army training injury. Last Summer, Corporal Jim Hill was training for deployment to the Middle East when he was severely injured with a painful and debilitating back injury. Separated from his family while awaiting medical treatment Cpl. Hill was medically discharged from the Army and returned from Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas to his Dunbarton home.
“I returned home broken,” said Corporal Hill. “Not only physically but mentally too. I was extremely happy to see my wife and boys again, but I really wanted to finish what I started and serve with my Unit. When I came home I was unable to return to my civilian work at the local elementary school due to my injury. When I was finally medically cleared to return to work, unfortunately the financial damage was done. Being without a steady paycheck really put a stress on me and my wife, Jamie.”
“We moved to Dunbarton nine years ago after we had our twin boys, Brian and Parker,” said Jamie Hill, Cpl. Hill’s wife. “We love it here. We had our third son and have built a wonderful life in this community. I encouraged Jim to enlist in the Army. He really wanted to serve our country and I fully supported him. Prior to him leaving for training in Fort Bliss, Texas we knew we were in desperate need to get our roof repaired. We reached out to Sentry Roofing and requested an estimate of services and planned to do the roof while Jim was deployed using the money he would receive – but he got injured, and that never happened.”
Sentry Roofing Owner, Paul Modzeleski and General Manager, TJ Howley both live in Dunbarton and learned about the Hill’s hardship. “There really wasn’t any discussion in our office about whether or not we were donating this project – it was ‘when’ are we doing this project,” said Paul Modzeleski, Sentry Roofing Owner. “Let’s get this done for this family!”
“I drive by the Hill’s home everyday,” said TJ Howley, Sentry Roofing General Manager. “My son is in the same grade as the Hill boys, we are part of the same community. I’m really proud we can help Cpl. Hill and his family. When we approached him and offered to donate this project; it took some talking into, but we finally got him to agree. When we came by for a site visit, we quickly realized their wood clapboards were also in need of replacing, so in addition to the new roof; we added the installation of vinyl clapboard too.”
“Jamie and I are extremely humbled by the Sentry Roofing’s generosity,” said Cpl. Hill. “It’s mind blowing, we don’t deserve this. We are beyond thankful to Paul and TJ and the entire Sentry Roofing team for doing this for us.”
The project was started and completed on Friday, July 21, 2017.
The Project Scope included:
- 1,300 sqf roof
- 1,800 sqf of siding
- Wrap all the exterior windows in trim
- New Shutters
Partners in the project include Sentry Roofing’s manufacturers and distributors to include: ABC Supply of Manchester, NH and Owens Corning Roofing of Toledo, Ohio and Pink Trash of Auburn, NH who has donated the dumpster and waste removal.
